The Caribbean Rooster

Roosters‬ are ingrained into the culture of ‪‎Puerto Rico and much of the Caribbean‬, similar to that of baseball in the States. Regardless of where you stay on ‪‎Vieques‬, it's very likely you will hear roosters. Locals living around Coco Caribe and many residences in Vieques have roosters. There are roosters in virtually every area of the ‪island‬ and Puerto Rico as a whole. You can hear roosters during the day everywhere you go on the island, but around dusk they become silent, only to start calling out again during the early morning hours. Most people report roosters don't bother them and enjoy the ‪Caribbean‬ experience. Typically, long term guests say they get used to it after a day or two. Therefore, we want to make it clear that roosters do exist on Vieques and you will notice them during your stay with us and/or anywhere else you choose for lodging. We recommend you bring earplugs if you are sensitive to this type of thing. In addition, a sound machine system has been added to the bedroom of the apartment to help drown out any noise that may otherwise disturb you.
